Personal Childhood Web

People who nurtured and cared about me when I was a child were my grandma, mom, dad, uncles, teachers and best friend.

*My grandma was like a mom to me. I grew up across the street and was her firstborn grandchild on both sides. She adored me and called me her "Little Princess". She convinced me that I could do or be anything. She gave me a great deal of knowledge - she was always teaching me about something. She involved me in her faith, her service to others and the community and taught me about respect and responsibility. She loved me without expecting anything in return.

*My mom was a sweet, kind person who has never gotten angry or said a bad word about anyone around me. She always sees the good in others. She was an avid reader and spent many hours reading to me and with me. She showered me with love and constantly admired how smart I was. She was convinced I could do or be anything. She served our family faithfully and put our needs above her own. She taught me sacrifice and service.

*My dad was a very strong man, physically and emotionally. He taught me to be tough and to stand up for myself. He taught me to question things and not take them at face value. Every night at supper, he would give us some kind of a riddle. He taught me reasoning and logic. He taught me about hard work and to take care of myself.

*I grew up across the street from five uncles. Since I was the first grandbaby, and a girl, I was showered with attention and praise. I was taught to bike, ride horses, shoot guns, water ski, fish, hike, swim, archery, car maintenance and to enjoy and respect the earth. I felt like the most loved child in the world. I felt protected and safe because of their involvement in my life.

*I had many teachers who impacted my life. My earliest memory is of my first grade sunday school teacher. She taught me about faith and to look for something beyond myself and this life. My second grade teacher loved me and helped me learn to read and write. My fifth grade teacher made such an impact on me that he is the reason I wanted to become a teacher.

*My best friend was an only child and came home with us everyday after school. She followed me around like a little puppy dog. She wanted to be like me and do what I did. Her parents took me on trips and invited me over. They had lots of things that we didn't have. They treated me like their daughter. We are still friends today.

I believe all these people have served to make me who I am today: confident, committed, caring, diligent, responsible, intelligent, faithful, hardworking and loyal. I have been blessed to have them in my life and am passing their wisdom and knowledge on to my own children.
